process catalogue
Graphic Design - Catalogue
This catalogue was designed for the School of Art, Art History, and Design (SAAHD) at the University of Iowa. It showcases each department (ceramics, graphic design, photography, and more) by highlighting the work of individual artists and including a short Q&A with each. My goal was to create a piece that captures the range of talent within the school while presenting it through a cohesive and visually engaging layout.
SAAHD - 05/2025
My design approach centered on balance, structure, and intention. I chose to keep all photos in black and white with a black background to maintain a clean, consistent foundation that allows color to take on symbolic meaning. The primary colors, red, blue, and yellow, were used as overlays to represent the roots of artistic creativity and add vibrancy without overwhelming the work.
I experimented with text placement, integrating typography as part of the composition to lead the viewer’s eye and play with negative space. Select spreads feature a single large artwork and the artist’s name, designed to double as removable poster pieces. I used Futura throughout the catalogue for its bold, modern feel, which supports the project’s clean aesthetic. Overall, my process focused on combining function and creativity, creating a publication that informs while standing as a work of art on its own.
